LIFE IS SHORT***

Life is short…

This week I’ve had time to reflect upon a lot in my life. I went to a function where I met a lot of amazing people doing a lot good for the community, trying to help those who can’t help themselves. It gave me some perspective on why I begun this business and why I stepped into the industry of Disability. To give back to others is the greatest gift of all. To be able to give someone hope, create a smile and provide spaces of safety for those vulnerable, those who can’t help themselves is one of the most fulfilling jobs. During the Disability Function, I sat back and listened to a lot of people wanting to create a lot of good.

This got me thinking a lot about my “WHY” for starting this business, of course one of my main whys is my son Spencer. He is what got me into this area in the first place. Having a son with a disability gave me personal experience and understanding from a parent’s perspective. Knowing the struggles and hardships many parents face having a child with a disability made me want to create something that could help support not only the child but the parents and there mental wellbeing. At first it was my son who inspired me, but the more I became involved in my clients and their families lives, the more I began to enjoy helping others, watching families grow and my clients achieve even the smallest of goals around life skills. My “Why” began to expand to helping others, even outside of work. Bringing a smile to the checkout clerk, speaking up for those who are too afraid (my kids, other kids), helping family and friends get out and about.

It became more than just my son; it has become a purpose in life for me to help others and be there for those in need. I feel for the first time my purpose is more than just being a mother, friend and a partner, its being able to give back too many and bring joy to those around me through the simplest of tasks.

Life is short, we don’t have long here (as my mum would remind me). We could waste our time on all the superficial, all the things we don’t have, the things we need and want. But what purpose does that serve for us truly? does having that Mercedes really make you happy? does buying that Loui Vuitton bag really fulfil your desires? or is it a temporary happiness that leaves you wanting more every time? These are things many of us are constantly exposed to as being versions of fulfilment and happiness. But happiness doesn’t come from things, happiness comes from within, it comes from rewarding jobs that create a purpose through serving others. Life is short, life is giving, and life is what we make of it, so make it one that is purposeful, and happiness will come…
